MAURITIUS RACING PREVIEW – 23RD MEETING – 2021

1st Race (0-20 – 1450m)
#6 CAPTAIN FALCON overcame his wide draw to strike in the opening contest of the Golden Trophy meeting. He remains in good order and has a strong chance of confirming. #4 Siberian Husky had to settle for second in his last run. He would have preferred a much longer trip, but is still capable of going one better. There is not much beyond those two, although #8 Northern Rebel is much better than what he served up in his last start, especially as he had struck before that. #1 Grey Again and #7 Gordonstoun can fight it out to complete the quartet.
Our Favourite: #6 CAPTAIN FALCON
Danger: #4 Siberian Husky
Dark Horse: #8 Northern Rebel

2nd Race (0-25 – 1850m)
#2 CITADEL’S last run was his first since being gelded. In far better form, he will relish running over the longer distance and having been drawn perfectly, he can produce a bold attempt. #7 Eagles Vision earned his yard their first win of the season in the seventeenth meeting. He remains well and is capable of confirming. #3 High Key is a horse that has blown hot and cold throughout his time in Mauritius. He has been unlucky on some occasions however, and he can be thereabouts in this contest. For the lower placings, #8 Dreamforest and #4 Man From Seattle are good contenders.
Our Favourite: #2 CITADEL
Danger: #7 Eagles Vision
Dark Horse: #3 High Key

3rd Race (B.36 – 1450m)
#6 SENOR DON showed up well on his debut, finishing 4th, 3.7 lengths behind Thomas Henry. This Alain Perdrau-trained horse has benefited hugely from that run and a big run is forthcoming from him. #4 Nao Faz Mal did not come close to confirming in his recent showing. He can do a lot better and can bounce back. #5 Gunston caught the eye with his showing in the Golden Trophy meeting. He will appreciate running over longer and can do even better here. #8 Memphis Mafia must not be judged on his recent run, as he could not overcome his wide draw. In good condition, he can renew with success. #2 Captains Fort made it onto the podium in his debut. Having come out well from that run, he can make his presence felt once again.
Our Favourite: #6 SENOR DON
Danger: #4 Nao Faz Mal
Dark Horse: #2 Captains Fort

4th Race (B.41 – 1500m)
#8 CAMP DAVID scored his second win of the season in his last start. He remains well and from his perfect draw, he can double the score. #7 Cash Call made it into the quartet in his recent run, despite being stuck wide throughout. He can do even better here. #2 Silver Heritage has raced twice since striking on Barbe Cup day, finishing 3rd on both occasions. He usually performs very consistently and is capable of being in the shake-up. #1 Jet Stream runs very well fresh and with a good pace expected, he will be a genuine threat in the closing stages.
Our Favourite #8 CAMP DAVID
Danger: #7 Cash Call
Dark Horse: #1 Jet Stream

5th Race (B.46 – 1365m)
#2 MAC ‘N SCAR may not have confirmed in his last run, but he did make it onto the podium. It is correct to state that he is a changed horse this season and in this contest, he sets the standard. #8 El Patron ran a good race over the 1400 metres just three meetings ago. Even over the 1365 metres, he is capable of going one better. #3 Sockeroo has been entered over this shorter trip. With the pace expected to be on right from the start, he can make his presence felt. #6 Swagger Jagger and #4 Nevil MU are good contenders for the lower placings.
Our Favourite: #2 MAC ‘N SCAR
Danger: #8 El Patron
Dark Horse: #3 Sockeroo

6th Race – The Jacques Vallet Cup (B.56 – 1400m)
Candidates aplenty in this main event! #9 VAR’S ELUSION attempts to make it five from five. Such is his current form, he has every chance of doing so. However, he won’t have everything in his favour. There is the presence of #10 Walls Of Dubrovnik, who has struck on every outing so far. He remains in excellent condition and even in this higher category, he is capable of stretching his own unbeaten run. #7 King Of Tara sealed his hat-trick in his last start. He remains in imperious form and having landed the perfect draw, he can strike once again. #8 Colour My Fate managed to make it third time lucky just two meetings ago. His own chances of confirming must not be scoffed at. #3 Prince Of Persia may still be without a win this season, but he has performed solidly. He merits consideration in this. #2 We Light The Fire did what he could in his recent attempt. Down two categories, he can be thereabouts.
Our Favourite: #9 VAR’S ELUSION
Danger: #10 Walls Of Dubrovnik
Dark Horse: #3 Prince Of Persia

7th Race (B.31 – 1600m)
After a spectacular win in the eighth meeting, #5 CHOSEN WAY did not put a foot wrong in doubling the score last time out. He remains in top order and is taken to seal his hat-trick. #6 Crazy Charlie has finished 3rd and 2nd in his last two runs respectively. If he can get it right at the start here, he can rattle the favourite. #2 Star Of Zeus made it onto the podium in his last start and can be thereabouts once again, while #3 Eight Cities and #7 Imperial Rage are good contenders for the lower placings.
Our Favourite: #5 CHOSEN WAY
Danger: #6 Crazy Charlie
Dark Horse: #2 Star Of Zeus

8th Race (0-26 – 1450m)
#4 SKIP THE RED very nearly made it in his last run. Based on that showing, he can bounce back. #8 Volatile Energy returns following a long absence. He is in good condition and having landed the perfect draw, he can make it all the way. #2 Lite Of My Life showed up well in his debut, finishing in 3rd place. He has continued to progress and can be right in the mix. #3 Pin Drop has made an honest start to life in Mauritius, finishing 4th and 3rd in his first two runs. He won’t be that far away in this.
Our Favourite: #4 SKIP THE RED
Danger: #8 Volatile Energy
Dark Horse: #3 Pin Drop
